Dharma For Kids - Family Time
| Day & time: Sundays, 11am Location: Sandy Springs | Course fees: $10/family; $5/kids with adults attending Sunday Services. |
Grown-ups AND kids!
Now your whole family can receive Dharma teachings at the same time. The "grown-ups" can join Resident Teacher, Gen Mondrub in the main meditation room for their meditation and weekly teaching, while the kids can join us in the youth room for their own meditation and teaching. Of course, parents are welcome to join the kids for Family Time if they so choose. (To learn more about the class for grown-ups, click here)
Class format
Class starts at 11am. We will begin with a few fun prostrations, dusting the shrine, and changing the water offerings on our kids' shrine. Then we sing the first five verses of "The Liberating Prayer" (click here to read) and engage in a short meditation using our imagination. After our meditation, we have a brief Dharma teaching (typically 10 - 15 minutes), followed by a hands-on activity. We finish by singing the last two verses of "The Liberating Prayer." Class finishes at approximately 12:30pm.
The teachings utilize traditional Buddhist stories and meditations from the books of Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, adapted for modern kids. After the class, parents and children are encouraged to join us for a bite to eat at and to socialize at the World Peace Café.
